Mission

Reporting to the Coordinator of Learning Commons, the STEM Center Advisor is responsible for developing and administering the activities and services of the Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Center and helping students improve their skills in mathematics, science and technology programs. He or she works in the Tutoring and Academic Success Center and with the Faculty of Science and Technology in order to implement educational initiatives that are in line with the College’s Student Success Plan.

More specifically, but not limited to, STEM Center Advisor:

  • In collaboration with Tutoring and Academic success Center professionals, administers the Centre’s peer tutoring program by recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling and supervising student tutors;
  • May participate in student success initiatives, including meeting with students during cyclical interventions and following up with at risk students throughout the semester;
  • Liaises with partners of the Center including the Science & Technology department and programs in order to ensure their involvement as well as to develop opportunities for student-based research;
  • Advises and assists teachers in matters pertaining to science and math literacy and other essential skills;
  • Works with other departments in order to analyze and optimize academic support services for science and technology students;
  • Is responsible for communicating Stem Centre related information to the Vanier community;
  • Develops and implements activities that promote science and technology and extend learning beyond the classroom;
  • Administers and support the Vanier Robotics Team and other STEM related curricular and extra curricular projects;
  • Designs and delivers workshops and classrooms presentations on learning strategies related to mathematics, science, and technology;
  • Carries out administrative duties for the Centre, including tasks related to the budget and to the physical space of the Centre;
  • Develops relationships with higher education institutions and professional organizations in the community.

Other related tasks which falls within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (28 hours per week)

Contract: Replacement to start as soon as possible until June 30, 2026, with the possibility of an extension

Profil

Qualifications:

 

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • At least one (1) year of pertinent experience in a Cégep (an asset);
  • Excellent English oral and written competencies (to be tested);
  • Strong French oral and written competencies (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel (to be tested);
  • Strong knowledge of the Cégep system and programs;
  • Strong capacity to analyze and synthesize;
  • Strong ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously and work to meet competing deadlines;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational competencies;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
