Job Description:
Reporting to the Learning Commons Coordinator, the Library Agent ensures constant front-line services to students, teachers, staff and outside visitors, and accomplishes clerical and administrative tasks in the Library.
More specifically, but not limited to, the Library Agent with Library-wide responsibilities
- Greets students, teachers, staff and outside visitors, provides information related to the library, its services and its functioning and refers more complex questions to the appropriate resources;
- Assists patrons throughout the library;
- Carries out tasks for the Library, including:
o Loans physical materials, resources, and group study rooms to patrons;
o Shelf reading and shelving returned books and other materials;
o Physically organizes the Library collection, books and/or other;
o Performs regular walkthroughs of the Library spaces;
o Ensures that the regulations of the library spaces are respected by patrons;
o Collects returned books from the Library’s various book drop-off points (when needed);
o Opening or closing of the Library. - Produces and keeps up to date procedures related to:
o Library closing;
o Organizing the collection of periodicals;
o Other areas of responsibility related to their position. - In collaboration with the Collections Librarian, organizes, offers suggestions, and assists with the ongoing development of the Library’s collection of periodicals;
- Assists the Coordinator of the Learning Commons in ensuring that
events held on F500 go smoothly. This includes:
o Meeting with the organizers to discuss logistical considerations.
o Ensuring that the event set-up conforms to the plan that was agreed upon, especially regarding security and accessibility. - Stays up to date on College-related emergency and evacuation procedures while playing an active role in coordinating the safe movement of students when a situation requires it;
- Contributes to Learning Commons team-wide mandates and special
projects.
Other related duties which fall
within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (35 hours per week)

Profil
Qualifications:
- Diploma of vocational studies (DEP) with an appropriate specialty or a secondary school diploma (DES) or an attestation recognized as equivalent;
- At least one (1) year of pertinent experience.
Conditions related to the specific position:
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
- Functional French oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (to be tested);
- Knowledge of library and office practices and procedures, an asset;
- Strong interpersonal communication competencies;
- Demonstrated ability to provide student-centered frontline service;
- Ability to lift and carry books, climb stepladders to reach high stacks, and bend low to shelve books on bottom shelves (light duties physical work).
