Job Title: Sustainability Advisor (Part-Time)

Description

Reporting to the Health, Safety and Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability Advisor develops and administers tools and initiatives to improve sustainability practices and support a safe, healthy and compliant campus environment. The incumbent provides practical support to the College in the areas of sustainability, greenhouse gas accounting and mitigation, environmental health, and contributes to the development of effective solutions that align with institutional priorities.

More specifically, but not limited to, the Sustainability Advisor:

  • Identifies, develops and helps implement sustainability initiatives aligned with the College’s strategic objectives, including carbon reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and other related environmental priorities;
  • Conducts and supports sustainability planning and reporting activities, including carbon emissions tracking and annual data collection and analysis;
  • Supports initiatives that promote biodiversity, ecological principles, and sound environmental stewardship across campus operations and projects;
  • Organizes activities related to the different theme days (Earth Day, Bike Day, etc.);
  • Provides practical advice and support to management on sustainability-related policies, procedures, projects and awareness initiatives;
  • Identifies, develops, and helps implement campus procedures regarding environmental health, including asbestos awareness, chemical safety risks, air quality standards, mold exposure, drinking water, and other related environmental health priorities;
  • Provides informed recommendations and administrative support to management and relevant internal committees on matters relating to sustainability and environmental health;
  • Supports environmental health awareness throughout campus, including the review and application of safe practices relating to hazardous products, chemical handling, storage, signage, and related documentation, in collaboration with the relevant departments;
  • Helps with other tasks for the Health, Safety and Sustainability department as needed.

Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Profile

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of specialization, particularly environmental science, biology, life science, public health, engineering, environmental studies, or another equivalent appropriate discipline.

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • Experience working in environmental science, environmental health, environmental policy and governance, prevention, compliance, environmental management, or another relevant operational field;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of carbon accounting, emissions reduction strategies and sustainability reporting frameworks;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data-driven environmental solutions and decision-making;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental health risk identification and analysis, including chemical, biological, and physical risks;
  • Experience in development, manipulation, and management of large data sets, principally related to greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability processes and standards;
  • Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and ongoing tasks successfully;
  • Ability to foster positive work relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated accuracy, discretion and organizational skills;
  • Capacity to synthesize information and conceptualize processes;
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Excellent French oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Word (to be tested).
