Job title: Pedagogical Counsellor (ATE)
Description
Reporting to the Coordinator of Pedagogical Support and Innovation, the Pedagogical Counsellor collaborates with teachers, academic programs and departments throughout the program improvement cycle, ministerial updates, internal program evaluations and implementation of new programs. As well, the Counsellor support student success, perseverance and the concept of purposeful education and is responsible for the expansion and day-to-day operations of the ATE (Alternance Travail-Étude) project in various Career and Technology programs.
More specifically, but not limited to, the Pedagogical Counsellor – ATE:
ATE (50%):
- Communicates, negotiates and finalizes agreements with the organizations that will be hosting ATE stages and develops and maintains good relations with corporate partners;
- Supports students looking for an ATE stage (curriculum vitae, industry visits, interview techniques, conferences, etc.);
- Develops, and organizes networking activities for students in ATE programs (Career Days);
- Designs and facilitates activities to prepare students for the workplace (workshops, health and security training, etc.);
- Organizes interview sessions with employers;
- Supervises students in the stage environment;
- Develops tools to evaluate stagiaires and stage environments;
- Prepares and upkeeps files on students and companies participating in the program;
- Ensures the renewal of authorization requests and government grants in conformity with the administrative rules and requirements for ATE programs;
- Establishes collaborative relationships with teachers and coordinators;
- Participates in Reseau AIT - apprentissage intégré au travail activities;
- Liaises with the Registrar’s Office to ensure that student records are up to date;
- Collects and analyzes all related data to ensure data driven decision making.
Quality Assurance, Policies and Academic Programs (50%):
- Supporting the development, improvement and deployment of the academic components of Vanier’s quality assurance system;
- Collaboration in developing new or revising existing academic policies, procedures, guidelines and tools based on the current needs of the College;
- Contributing to the implementation, tracking and reporting on specific actions related to academic components of Vanier’s Strategic plan and external requests from evaluation bodies.
The Counsellor:
- Supports programs’ use of data to identify goals and promote student success;
- Supports the development of annual work plans and year end reports;
- Participates in Program Committees;
- Shares pedagogical tools, resources, and strategies to support student learning.
As well, the Pedagogical Counsellor accompanies academic programs through program revision, including but not limited to:
- Participation in Revision Teams;
- Offering processes, tools and resources to support program revisions;
- Ensuring preparation and submission of required program documents in the approval process.
Additionally, the Pedagogical Counsellor:
- Develops, in collaboration with the Pedagogical Support and Innovation team, tools to guide programs through reflecting, designing program documents, but not limited to exit profiles, program grids, and course frameworks;
- Supports program committees by providing specific data as part of the ongoing program improvement cycle;
- Contributes to PSI team-wide mandates and special projects;
- Shares information, resources, and professional development opportunities with the Vanier community;
- Offer opportunities to help teachers connect pedagogical theories to teaching practice;
- Offers counselling and professional development activities in areas of expertise;
- Liaises between different Vanier services to promote-multi sectorial collaboration;
- Stays informed about current events and developments in relevant areas of expertise through professional development, peers and other sources;
- Creates and edits documents that support pedagogical practice;
- Collaborates with intercollegiate and network-wide working groups and communities of practice.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Profile
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Education or other appropriate field of specialization.
Conditions related to the specific position:
- Teaching and learning experience, ideally at the college level;
- Strong understanding of competency-based education and the program approach;
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in pedagogy and higher education;
- Excellent ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously and work to meet competing deadlines and changing priorities;
- Strong critical/creative thinking skills and ability to provide constructive feedback;
- Basic knowledge of Office Suite (to be tested);
- Excellent English written and oral communications competencies (to be tested);
- Strong French written and oral communications competencies (to be tested);
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills;
- Excellent ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously and work to meet competing deadlines and changing priorities;
- Excellent knowledge of the Cégep system and programs, an asset;
- Strong understanding of quality assurance systems and of information tracking and reporting in an institutional context;
- Demonstrated expertise in policy review and development.
