Job title: Adapted Services Counsellor (Replacement) (Part-Time)

 

Description

The Adapted Services Counsellor, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Student Life, Access and Exam Center, plays a pivotal role in the enhancement and integration of services offered by the ACCESS Team. Their primary objective is to help students experiencing learning, organizational, and communication barriers achieve their optimal academic development using a student-centered approach. The counsellor works collaboratively with students, teachers, and other professionals to plan, develop, and evaluate integrated activities and support services.

More specifically, but not limited to, the Adapted Services Counsellor:

  • Assesses students and provides them with plans and strategies of intervention, as well as referrals for internal support services that will meet their needs;
  • Liaises with teachers and other professionals on a regular basis regarding students’ accommodations;
  • Provides individualized support to students to develop essential academic skills, such as time management, studying and note-taking;
  • Develops and facilitates support groups to provide strategies to mediate barriers;
  • Collaborates with other members of the ACCESS team;
  • Provides individualized support and may facilitate groups to provide strategies to mediate barriers;
  • Provides case management, maintaining student dossiers and files, including regular documentation as required by the college and external granting organizations, always respecting confidentiality;
  • Communicates with healthcare professionals for special equipment needed and any necessary training on how to manipulate this equipment;
  • Develops, plans, and facilitates campaigns and workshops to increase disability awareness with faculty, staff and students;
  • Coordinates the work of the attendant for disabled students based on their students’ specific needs and at times called to replace the attendant when they are absent, within the limits of their capabilities;
  • Provides support to the exam center team during absences or busy periods;
  • Collaborates with other members of the ACCESS team.

Other related duties which fall within this position's scope of classification may be assigned.

Schedule: Monday and Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (14 hours/week)

Contract: From September 22, 2025 until September 22, 2026, or until the return of the incumbent to her position, whichever occurs first.

Profile

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization.

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • Excellent English oral and written competencies (to be tested);
  • Strong French oral and written competencies (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Basic Excel (to be tested);
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Proven experience in providing support to students with disabilities (specifically Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Mental Health);
  • Recent and demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology and related tools available to support students with disabilities (an asset);
  • Experience with, knowledge of, commitment to, and passion for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in supporting diverse and underrepresented students.
